Rural Healthcare in Saskatchewan

In recent years, concerns have been raised by healthcare workers, and by the public, about shifts in the delivery of healthcare in rural Saskatchewan. CUPE Local 5430, which represents an array of healthcare and ancillary workers, has expressed an interest in understanding how recent changes in the delivery of healthcare in rural parts of the province have impacted their members and what these changes might mean for the overall direction of rural health service delivery in the province. The goal of this research project is to provide a picture of what changes have occurred over the past five years.

Reducing the Social Isolation of Older Adults - A Scoping Review of Interventions

The purpose of this scoping review was to assess the current research literature that describes the implementation and assessment of interventions and their associated outcomes related to reducing social isolation of older adults. The review was completed by the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU) as part of the collective impact evaluation of the Reducing Isolation of Seniors Collective (RISC), a project funded by the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program. In 2015 Employment and Service Development Canada announced a call for proposals to reduce social isolation of seniors using a collective impact approach which “brings together a group of collaborating organizations from different sectors to commit to a common agenda aiming for significant changes in their community”

Northern Saskatchewan HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C awareness initiative

The major objective of this research project, conducted between October 2002 and June 2005, was to collect baseline information on northern peoples' perceptions and experiences of HIV/AIDS, as well as to identify local and regional capacities and gaps for preventing and managing HIV/AIDS. Because hepatitis C comes to communities in many of the same ways as HIV and AIDS, it was also included in the research.

Atlas Project

Maps can be used to show health and health care patterns. Digital maps have the additional advantages of storing data, providing a mechanism for retrieval and use, and testing hypotheses. SPHERU researchers are developing a user-friendly, interactive digital atlas covering health issues throughout Saskatchewan.
