The purpose of this scoping review was to assess the current research literature that describes the implementation and assessment of interventions and their associated outcomes related to reducing social isolation of older adults. The review was completed by the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU) as part of the collective impact evaluation of the Reducing Isolation of Seniors Collective (RISC), a project funded by the federal New Horizons for Seniors Program. In 2015 Employment and Service Development Canada announced a call for proposals to reduce social isolation of seniors using a collective impact approach which “brings together a group of collaborating organizations from different sectors to commit to a common agenda aiming for significant changes in their community”
Improving rural and northern Aboriginal seniors’ health through policy and community level interventions (2011-2014)
Our research program on healthy aging in rural Saskatchewan Métis Community is framed through two connected projects that consider aging well across the lifecourse. Wuskiwiy-tan! (Let’s Move) is focused on seniors and Ta-Nigahniwhak! (They Will Be Leaders) is focused on youth.
Strengthening the interface between research, policy and community
Maps can be used to show health and health care patterns. Digital maps have the additional advantages of storing data, providing a mechanism for retrieval and use, and testing hypotheses. SPHERU researchers are developing a user-friendly, interactive digital atlas covering health issues throughout Saskatchewan.
