Gabriela Novotna (University of Regina, SPHERU) received a grant to explore how to support mental health and addictions counsellors in Saskatchewan
The purpose of this study is to explore knowledge derived from the lived experience of addiction and recovery among addictions counsellors in Saskatchewan to inform future, larger research that would enhance the quality of the addiction treatment field by guiding the educational, training, supervision, and knowledge translation initiatives. The study is a pioneering effort in the addiction field to support the greater inclusion of counsellors with recovery experience in informing the strategic changes in the field with respect to professional development, training and certification. Knowledge gained from this study will contribute to the professional literature on peer-related issues in treatment services and supports, not only in the addiction field, but also in closely related mental health field.
