The Indigenous Peoples’ Health Research Centre (IPHRC) mandate is to develop capacity for community-based indigenous health research in Saskatchewan and to create networks of indigenous health researchers regionally, nationally, and internationally. Principal Investigators include Frederic Wien of Dalhousie University, and JoAnn Episkinew and Carrie Bourassa of First Nations University of Canada.
The IPHRC is a partnership between the First Nations University of Canada, the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan, and is funded by the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health (IAPH), one of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and by the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation. All IPHRC faculty and staff are employed by one of the three partner universities.
Goals / Outcomes: The IPHRC has distributed summer research awards to more than 70 undergraduate students, as well as graduate fellowships to more than 30 PhD and Master’s level students. Of the more than 100 students that IPHRC has supported, 98 have been Aboriginal.
